Do I need a visa to go to Egypt?
Yes, foreigners who want to visit Egypt need a visa for entry, with the exception of some Arab countries. Since 2017, the process has been facilitated through an electronic visa.
If you are a Spanish citizen traveling to hotel resorts in Sharm El Sheikh, Dahab, Nuweiba and Taba, and your stay will be less than 2 weeks, you do not need to obtain a visa beforehand.
Who can get an electronic visa?
Spanish citizens can obtain an electronic visa on the official website of the Arab Republic of Egypt. Click here to access the page.
Other countries that can access the electronic visa are Albania, Germany, Australia, Austria, Bulgaria, Belgium, Canada, Czech Republic, Cyprus, Republic of Korea, Croatia, Denmark, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, United States of America, Estonia, Russian Federation, Finland, France, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Iceland, Italy, Japan, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Macedonia, Malta, Republic of Moldova, Montenegro, Monaco, Norway, New Zealand, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal United Kingdom, Romania, Holy See, Serbia, Sweden, Switzerland and Ukraine. The rest of the countries should go to the Egyptian embassy in their country to get the visa.
How long before traveling do I have to obtain the electronic visa?
My experience is that since you send the request, it takes about 4 or 5 days to send you the acceptance. Therefore, I recommend taking the visa at least 10 days in advance.
What types of visas are there? How long can I be there? Can I enter more times than once?
There are two types:
For a single entry: allows entry only once in the country, for a maximum of 30 consecutive days and costs about 22 euros.
Multiple entry: allows entering and leaving the country several times and costs about 53 euros.
Once you pay, the amount is not refundable, even if your request is not accepted.
You have a maximum of 3 months from your acceptance to use the visa.
Once in the country you can extend your visa in Cairo, Alexandria, Luxor, Aswan and Minya. You will need 2 copies of your passport, 2 passport photos and printed information about your visa. If your visa has expired, you have a period of grace to renew it for 14 days for an amount of about 5 euros. If you leave the country in this period, you will pay a fine at the airport of about 8 euros.
